Retired English teacher decides to follow her dream and learn Spanish

Retired English teacher sets out to learn Spanish:

“My name is Karen Rosebaugh.  I had a most fantastic experience at SEPA Spanish School in Costa Rica.  As a retired English teacher, I have taken on the goal of learning Spanish, something I always wished I had the time to do but never could….

She starts with traditional Spanish classes and discovers at the end of the semester she is no closer to speaking Spanish:

“I started out by taking a Spanish class at a local college in Washington.  It was difficult from the ‘get-go’.  There were 30 students in the class.  The teacher moved so quickly through the textbook that, try as I might, I couldn’t grasp the concepts.  I hired a tutor to help me, but it was still a really tough go. I thought I was the only one struggling until I realized towards the end of the semester that less than half the students were left!

After suffering through a miserable semester of putting in 4 hours a day to do my homework I decided to put my Spanish to a test by talking in Spanish with a friend. To my despair, I couldn’t do it! Instead of giving up, I became more determined than ever to learn Spanish.

Then she hears about SEPA Spanish School and their revolutionary approach to learning Spanish:

One day, I heard about SEPA Spanish School. After reviewing many Spanish Abroad Programs, I decided to try SEPA’s revolutionary Spanish courses.  I am so glad I did!

The difference between SEPA Spanish School’s approach and the Spanish course I had just been through in the United States was like night and day. The academic program at SEPA scrutinized my needs from the moment I came to the campus.  The one-on-one experience with instruction was consistently a teach-and-adjust-to-my-needs experience.  My instructors utilized quick evaluations during and following lessons to gauge my progress before adding new concepts.  Definitely, the ‘homework’ was helpful.

I worked with three instructors during my six weeks; all were exceptional in knowledge of teaching the grammar and linguistics of the Spanish language; further, all taught with the conviction of helping me meet the goals I had expressed to them.  This was greatly appreciated!

My instructors were well educated and well-prepared to teach me how to speak Spanish.

SEPA School’s Spanish Abroad Homestay clinches it:

“Furthermore, being able to do a full immersion Spanish homestay and participate in the community truly furthered my life experience and education.  Everything about the SEPA Spanish courses and homestay set me up for success!
