SEPA Spanish School has partnered with Mt. Hood Community College in Oregon to provide an eight-week program called https://www.mhcc.edu/education-options/study-abroad/costa-rica that gives students the university or college Spanish language credits they need to fulfill their school requirements. Many students have studied with us and gratefully received their language credits through this excellent Spanish program. To date, all colleges, universities and even high schools have welcomed this method of earning credits!

“¡Hola! I really enjoyed this study abroad program. I think San Isidro de El General is a fantastic place for this program. It is a smaller town which makes it safer, but at the same time the town has quite a busy downtown area with lots of great shops and restaurants making it a very comfortable place to stay for 7 weeks.  For me, it took about two days to fully adjust because I felt a bit homesick at first, but by the third day I felt much better and felt ready for the experience! The family I stayed with was excellent. They were all very nice and made sure I was comfortable. During meals they always wanted to make sure I had enough to eat and something to drink. They even put a TV in my room! So I had a great experience with my host family. They also took me to the beach twice! As far as the actual Spanish classes go, 4 hours of Spanish for 5 days a week means that I got a lot of practice and time for improvement. My ability to read out loud, comprehend what I was ready it, and retain the information really improved. There is a lot of conversational practice that goes on in class which really helped my speaking ability overall. We had two dance classes which I actually really enjoyed. I was also presently surprised that I didn’t have as much trouble gaining the courage to speak Spanish with strangers when I’m ordering food (I have on past trips to Latin America so it was really rewarding to see that improvement). My class also went to Manuel Antonio where I saw 2 sloths from a far, some monkeys, an iguana, and swam in the ocean. The ocean in Costa Rica is very warm.  There were 2 written exams, an oral exam, and some daily homework, but it wasn’t super difficult and I found that I didn’t get too stressed out about it. Because this program is more about participation in class and practicing Spanish in the real world, I wasn’t as stressed about my grade. Overall, great experience! Most days after class I went to an ice cream shop for an ice cream, smoothie, or sometimes both! For people who love to travel and want to learn Spanish, I highly recommend that you take advantage of this opportunity and come to Costa Rica! It might seem like a long time to be away from home, but trust me, time flies by because you will be having the time of your life! “.

SEPA SCHOOL has also partnered with other universities, to support students in graduate projects.  The support can be pure Spanish language acquisition, or the Spanish vocabulary needed for their research (such as working with farmers in the valley, or in an environmental protection project).
